Tooth Extractions
An extraction is usually quicker and easier than people fear. We only remove a tooth when there's genuinely no good way to save it, and we'll talk you through replacing it.

What is a tooth extraction?
A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that's too damaged, decayed, or infected to save. Your dentist numbs the area, gently loosens the tooth, removes it, then sets you up with aftercare so the socket heals cleanly. It's usually quicker and easier than people fear.

Does getting a tooth pulled hurt?
With local anaesthetic, you'll feel pressure and movement but not pain. Mild soreness afterwards is normal and manageable with simple painkillers.
How long does it take to heal after an extraction?
The gum surface typically heals in one to two weeks, with the bone continuing to fill in underneath over a couple of months. Most people are back to normal within a few days.
What is dry socket and how do I avoid it?
Dry socket happens when the protective blood clot is dislodged too early. Avoid smoking, straws, and vigorous rinsing for 24 hours to prevent it. We'll guide you through it.
Should I replace the tooth after it's removed?
Usually yes, unless it's a wisdom tooth. A gap can shift other teeth and shrink the jawbone. We'll explain implant, bridge, and denture options.
Can I go to work the next day?
Many people do, especially after a simple extraction. If it was more involved, give yourself a day to rest. We'll advise based on your case.
Can I drive home after an extraction?
Yes, if you've had local anaesthetic, which is standard for most extractions. If we've planned sedation, arrange for someone to take you home.
