Dental Fillings

A filling stops decay from spreading and lets you bite and chew normally again. We use tooth-coloured composite that blends in and contains no mercury, so the repair is barely visible.

Dental Fillings

What is a dental filling?

A dental filling repairs a tooth damaged by decay. Your dentist removes the decayed part, cleans the cavity, then fills it with a tooth-coloured material that restores the tooth's shape and strength. It stops the decay spreading and lets you bite and chew normally again.

We use tooth-coloured composite that blends in and contains no mercury, so the repair is barely visible.

Frequently asked questions

How long do dental fillings last?

Tooth-coloured fillings typically last 7 to 10 years, often longer with good home care and regular check-ups. Lifespan depends on the filling's size, your bite, and whether you grind your teeth.

Is getting a filling painful?

Most patients feel little to nothing thanks to local anaesthetic. Mild sensitivity for a day or two afterwards is normal and settles on its own.

Can I eat after a filling?

Yes. Composite fillings set immediately, so you can eat once the numbness wears off. We suggest waiting until then so you don't accidentally bite your cheek or tongue.

What happens if I leave a cavity untreated?

Decay only spreads. A small cavity that needs a simple filling today can become an infected nerve needing a root canal, or an extraction, later. Early treatment is cheaper and easier.

Are white fillings safe? Do you still use mercury?

White composite fillings are safe and mercury-free. We use them as standard and can replace old amalgam (silver) fillings on request.
