Dental Fillings

A dental filling repairs a tooth damaged by decay. Your dentist removes the decayed part, cleans the cavity, then fills it with a tooth-coloured material that restores the tooth's shape and strength. It stops the decay spreading and lets you bite and chew normally again. We use tooth-coloured composite that blends in and contains no mercury.

Tooth-coloured fillings typically last 7 to 10 years, often longer with good home care and regular check-ups. Lifespan depends on the filling's size, your bite, and whether you grind your teeth.

Most patients feel little to nothing thanks to local anaesthetic. Mild sensitivity for a day or two afterwards is normal and settles on its own.

Yes. Composite fillings set immediately, so you can eat once the numbness wears off. We suggest waiting until then so you don't accidentally bite your cheek or tongue.

Decay only spreads. A small cavity that needs a simple filling today can become an infected nerve needing a root canal, or an extraction, later. Early treatment is cheaper and easier.

White composite fillings are safe and mercury-free. We use them as standard and can replace old amalgam (silver) fillings on request.
